New York Islanders team with local Tattoo Parlour

The New York Islanders are pioneering a unique partnership which is one of a kind in the world of professional athletics. The lucky shop in question is Tattoo Lou's and they will make their presence felt at the Nassau Coliseum this year for ten Islander's home games. The shop will also have an opportunity to design tattoo inspired T-shirts that prominently feature the New York Islanders Logo. The Islanders are
definitely a franchise that could use some buzz due to the fact that they play second banana to the New York Rangers in the New York Hockey Market and the uncertainty of their Arena situation and the possibility that the team may move to another city. This move is definitely a step in the right direction for the Islanders who stand to garner some younger fans who are tattoo enthusiasts but otherwise would not attend a hockey game if it were not for the presence of a full fledged tattoo parlor in the Nassau Coliseum.

Sports has for a very long time had a secret love affair with the art of Tattooing. Just look at the Denver Nuggets. Numerous high profile athletes in the NBA and NFL proudly sport all kinds of ink. Recently, the number one draft pick in the NFL, Cam Newton was commended by the owner of the Carolina Panthers, Jerry Richardson for not having any Tattoos. This was ultimately seen by most media outlets as a racially charged statement and made many people feel uncomfortable. What right does a franchise owner have to demand his employees not decorate their bodies. These comment by Jerry Richardson were definitely uncalled for and made it seem like he feels that he owns his players. Ultimately, the bodies belong to the players and if they are not braking the law they should be able to express themselves.
Sometimes ink can be motivational and propel players to greater heights. A great example of this is the Tattoo of the Jim O'Brien Trophy (NBA Championship Trophy) that Dallas Maverick's guard Jason Terry got on his neck in the beginning of the 2010-11 NBA season. Had the Mavericks failed to beat the Heat in the Finals, the Tattoo would have looked down right silly. As in any walk of life sometimes do things that are over the top that make you question a person's sanity and unfortunately the world of tattooed athletes has a one glaring example of ink gone awry. Melvin Costa is an up and coming MMA fighter competing for the King of the Cage promotion. He happens to be some sort of neo-nazi and has a swastika tattoo on his chest, which is not a great idea but hey this is America, if he wants to be an ignorant racist that's fine by me but he also happens to have a Tattoo declaring the underwhelming size of his member on his stomach. I am not sure that is the best way to declare his "white pride" and it is definitely offensive to basically everybody. TMI, buddy that is your girlfriend's problem, no need to declare it to the world.

The world of Athletics and the art of Tattooing are definitely on a collision course that could benefit both industries. I have a feeling that the Islanders are starting a trend that will explode in the next decade as tattooing becomes more mainstream and sports gains even more popularity. This is a relationship that will blossom and continue to surprise both casual sports fans and casual tattoo aficionados. This is coming from someone who has a NY Giant's tattoo on his left bicep, so I am already at the forefront of this phenomenon.

Survived the Quake NYC 2011!

So yeah, As you all know we had a small earth quake on Tuesday Aug 23rd, Things got a little shaky, but over all i think it was rather small and no significant damage was reported. Obviously this didn't stop a bunch of retards from running in to the streets, delaying traffic and waving there arms in the air like a wacky inflatable arm flailing tube man! After standing around and staring at each others genitals for several hours most people went home for the day. After realizing what the majority of our citizens where up too Joe had a great idea! He sat down and sketched up a tattoo of New York State with "Survived the Quake" lettering. He posted it up on facebook as a Gag, and priced it at $30. A few minutes later our friend and loyal customer John was down. He came in and got it inked on his waist. Holy shit we thought, someone actually had the balls to get this done! Joe posted it on facebook, and next thing we know its on tons of blogs and all over the web. The following morning Joe gets a call from The Daily News! They interviewed him and John and took pictures. Now its in today's paper! Daily News Page 14! "Tat's All he Wrote..." You can check out the article or the links we posted on facebook. Good Times! Thank you for supporting our shop, and a special thanks to John for coming thru.

1 Year Anniversary!

So we havent posted much on here, our apologies. Been busy! Lets sum it up: Baltimore tattoo convention in April. It was our 1st as a shop and it was awesome, met some great artists from Pittsburgh Mike and Mark. We just got back from the tattoo convention in Erie PA. We again were lucky enough to have a really cool shop next to our booth, Bitter Hearts Tattoo from Ohio! Really miss these friends which we've made along our adventures, but theres no place like home, NYC!!!!!

Now, down to the nitty gritty. IT IS OUR 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY! To commemorate this joyous occasion we are doing the same deal we did when we 1st opened our doors. July 1st - 3rd we are doing 50% off Tattoos & Piercings! We are not taking appointments but we are opening a little earlier than usual at 12PM. Its going to be first come first serve for walk-ins. Hope to see everyone there!

promotions again.....

OKay we drew up a bunch of design that we want to do, so the deal is this, all of them are a hundred bucks ($100.00) we do them once and the stencil gets tossed, secondly if you have an idea we will do it but it will only be in the style that we want to do it in (japanese or neo-traditional) no tribals rosaries or any generic tattoo ideas. Sorry not that kind of promotion, if you do not like the sketch, it will not be getting done, if the tattoo is small we do it for less cash. send me an email if you are intarested. thanks guys.

Something to keep you going.....

So between doing everything for the convention and then on top of that dealing with customers who seem to be coming in a lot lately, (awesome) we also deal with our personal lives, and now since our personal lives are intertwined with our work lives it is hard to make sense of what is really going on. But here are some new tattoos by Joe, thanks for all the support guys.
